For patch day know things will happen and expect longer down times. Make sure your skill queue has a nice long skill waiting and go enjoy the outdoors or watch a movie. I know cyber spaceships is serious business, but the rage in waiting longer is pathetic.

The problem is being optimistic in their ability to patch anything. They should say the server will be down 24 hrs and when they get it up in 18 hrs everyone will praise them for a job well done.

Originally by: CCP Zymurgist In case you aren't watching the first post of this thread for updates I would like to point out that the downtime for deployment of Incursion 1.6 has been extended to 18:30 UTC due to issues we have discovered with starbases. We are currently reviewing the fixes before opening Tranquility to the players.
At least be conspicuous in modifying that post. You modified the extended time as if it were alway 18:30 without indicating a new problem. You should tag the time change as an update and why.

Seriously, it like suing McDonalds cuz you did not know coffee was HOT. ;o)
She won that lawsuit...
Only in America
She'd have won in most other countries as well. The coffee is expected to be hot. It is not expected or anticipated that the coffee will be hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns in a few seconds of exposure.
Worth considering where, exactly the burns were in this case. Guy's look down at your little friend. Imagine it with all 3 layers of skin peeling off. How much would THAT hurt?
It was more than just hot, it was industrial grade scolding hot. McDonalds was told to reduce the temp of coffee 3 times due to serious burns prior to this incident and they actually made it hotter. This stuff was hot enough for the worst burns in under .5 seconds and was not safe for any sort of human consumption.
Also the lid was not properly placed on the cup to keep the coffee contained. This case has multiple incidences of neglect on the part of McDonald's. What isn't reported is the damages were reduced later on on a settlement in the case.

CCP admins monitoring this thread. Will you tell us the new update to the down time or have you gone with the complete silence approach and abandoning even the appearance of customer support on this issue? Just asking what level of "customer care" to expect

Originally by: LordElfa Then if you stick it in McDonald's coffee you deserve to be burned.
third degree burns? She deserved that for trying to open the lid to add her sugar/cream?
No, she deserved it for trying to do it in her damned lap. You see, car seats sit at an angle which means your coffee is technically tilted, towards your crotch. Add momentum of trying to move away from the drive through and the coffee moves even further towards your crotch. Having to move your legs to operate pedals and spillage of full beverage is almost unavoidable once the lid is off.
Hence, it may be McDonald's fault the coffee was hot(despite it being labeled as hot coffee), but the spill in her lap was her fault as she chose to place the beverage in her lap.
It's also her fault for not owning a Keurig. Anyone who makes coffee any other way has failed.
Comparative negligence comes in play here. She was found 20% at fault by the jury and McDonalds 80% at fault. Readup on the background some more, this was not isolated incident. They had over 500 different instances of burns but didn't call that number high enough to warrant a look at the coffee temp.

Due to poor programming/formatting. They formatted it hh:mm:ss but the database is only recording the hh:mm so displays 00 by default. Or the database is saving the ss but an error in the code isn't properly recalling it.

Originally by: Jaebodiah What is with all this talk about coffee? Coffee is hot...plain and simple. The ***** is a dummy. There's nothing more to it than that.
Just a few facts.
The coffee was way hotter than it needed to be.
She was in the hospital 8 days
She needed skin graphs as she 3rd degree burns on 6 percent of her body.
She had 2 years of medical treatment
She just wanted the medical bills covered but the red headed clown told her to eff off.
She died in 2004 so it really doesn't matter anymore.
Facts
You can also google for the info or just wait for someone to beat you with a clue bat.
Lets take the talk of personal responsibility to its logical conclusion. You give someone coffee, it is standard practice that someone will open the lid to flavor the coffee and that is foreseen, especially when you also hand them cream and sugar. You must factor in that the lid will be removed in a vehicle. Therefore, as producer of said product you must ensure the coffee and container are designed to be safely handled in an open space like a car and that the liquid is safe for the consumer. To do otherwise is negligence.
To say she was responsible for opening the lid shows confusion of the issues at play. The container was designed to be opened, otherwise they can design it to snap on and not be taken off. opening the lid to flavor the coffee is standard practice amongst coffee drinkers. She had a right to expect the coffee wouldn't cause 3rd degree burns if it spilled, which was an entirely foreseeable.
She was hurt by defective design of the cup and the coffee itself. Saying it was her fault and not McDonalds would let all manufacturers off from defective design. Part of tort is being responsible for defective design if a product is used in a foreseeable manner and the injury is foreseeable given the circumstances. Here it is foreseeable someone will open the lid (designed that way) and coffee spills. Too hot coffee causing burns to skin is foreseeable injury and McD's was on notice that this occurred previously in the past and made a conscious decision not to change anything. McD's had a duty to ensure safety of the coffee, including the packaging and temp that it was served.
New example: a person driving a car has a general duty to conduct the car in a safe and responsible manner. If a driver runs through a red light, the driver violates that duty. As it is foreseeable that running a red light can result in a car crash, and that people are likely to be injured in such a collision, the driver will be liable in negligence for any injuries that in fact result to others in a collision resulting from the running of the red light. Would you now claim that the person who was hit was actually at fault since they didn't look both directions and stop at the intersection before proceeding through?
Stating the lady was at fault is essentially stating that even though McDonald's created conditions it knew was unsafe and could/and did cause harm to others, she is to blame for being hurt by the unsafe conditions.
